Mariupol MTP (the Ukraine) cargo turnover down by 21.3%, Jan.-Oct. 2009

Cargo turnover of Commercial Seaport of Mariupol (MTP) (Donetsk region, the Ukraine) decreased by 21.3% (to 10.84 mln. tons) in January-October, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period of previous year.  As per Transportation Business, that refers to the data provided by the port administration, volumes of metals transhipped reduced by 3.8% (to 5.902 mln tons, coal - by 8.9% (to 3.058mln tons), clay - by 63.2% (to 891.7 thousand tons) within the reporting period.

At the same time the company did not tranship sulfur within the reporting period, whereas 820.4 thousand tons of cargo was transhipped in January-October, 2008. Grains throughput increased by  29.1% (to 667.7 thousand tons).

Commercial Seaport of Mariupol is one of three largest ports of the Ukraine. The port’s berths are capable of handling vessels with length of up to 240 meters and draft of up to 8 meters. The port handles ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cast iron, ore, coal, coke, clay fertilizers, sulfur, equipment (including large size and heavy equipment), heavy fuel oil (ship-to-ship), grain, containers and packaged cargo.
