Gasprom to wind up liquefied natural gas projects, International Energy Agency

Infrastructure of gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas terminals has excess capacities that will not be in demand further on. These are the estimates presented in energy review of International Energy Agency (IEA) stated the Financial Times. As per the agency’s estimates, capacities excess will show 4-time increase by 2015 as compared to 2007 figures and will amount to 250 bln m3.

As per the agency’s analysts’ opinion, natural gas oversupply is felt in the market which will lead to demand decrease and reduction of its price. Increase of renewable energy resources and power consumption by developed countries will also contribute to the tendency.

The situation will have the strongest impact on Russia, Iran, Qatar which control the greatest volumes of world’s gas resources.

For Gasprom it will mean loss of influence on gas consumers and winding up of investment programs in the sphere of liquefied natural gas by 2030, the agency’s experts are sure.
