Qasim port throughput up 11% to 6.73 million tonnes

During the first quarter of the current financial year, Port Qasim handled a cargo volume of 6.73 million tonnes, an increase of 11 percent over the corresponding period of last year and four percent above target, the Daily Pak Banker reported.
Shipping during the first quarter (July-September) of 2009-2010 also increased by 10pc and 7pc over the corresponding period and planned target.
It should be noted that exports showed an increase of 55 percent, while imports marginally increased by one percent during the first quarter of 2009-200 compared to the corresponding period of last year.
