Cargo turnover of the port of Caucasus up by 12.36%, Jan.-Oct. 2009

Cargo turnover of the port of Caucasus increased by 12.36% (to 6.73 mln tons) in January-October, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period of 2008. As PortNews IAA learnt from FGUP Rosmorport in Taman, in October 841.9 thousand tons was transhipped which is 45.5% more as compared to the reporting period of 2008.

The number of operated vessels amounted to 2146 within 10-month period 2009.

The port of Caucasus is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port of Caucasus is ice-free, so it has the ability to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 4.5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The port handles bulk cargo (mineral fertilizers, ores, grains), general cargoes, timber and containerized cargoes.
