Cargo transhipment in the Ukrainian ports down by 20%, Jan.-Oct. 2009

Volumes of cargo transhipped in the Commercial Seaports of the Ukraine decreased by 20% (to 89.12 mln tons) as compared to the corresponding period of 2008, stated internet-portal with reference to information provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Communication.

Port joint of Big Odessa (Odessa, Ilichevskii, Yuzhnyi commercial seaports) lost over 12 mln tons of cargoes within the reporting period, having decreased overall transhipment to 15.79 mln tons.

Second in its capacity Nikolaevskii maritime region lost over  3.5 mln tons of its loading, region of the Ukrainian Azov – about 3 mln. The Ukrainian Danube reduced its volumes by 3 mln tons of cargoes.

Greater stability is seen in the ports of the Crimea, that lost no more than 5% of their loading (-0.4 mln tons, to 7.78 mln).

Two ports belong to the aforementioned region: the port of Kerch (+8.1%, to 3.76 mln tons) and the port of Sevastopol (+2%, до 0.33 mln). They have maintained positive dynamics.

Transit transhipment in January-October decreased by 29.5%, to 30.34 mln tons. Here positive dynamics was preserved by the only port of Feodosiya (+9.8%, to 1.25 mln tons).

Port of Mariupol showed the greatest transit volumes reduction (-51%), as well as Odessa port (-37%) and Nikolaevskii port (-33%). Yuzhnyi port showed greater stability in the transit sector (-17%, to 7.4 mln tons).
