Containerized cargo shipped by RZD to increase by 5%, Vadim Morozov

Share of container freight via Russian railways may increase by 5% against current 2% by 2012. That was an opinion expressed by Vadim Morozov, Vice-president of RZD OJSC, at an International Scientific conference ‘Containerisation of Russia, logistic terminals and handling operations development’, informed RZD-Partner.ru.

As per Morozov, implementation of these estimations will directly depend on several factors. Macroeconomic situation in the country, increase of cargoes possible to containerize in foreign trade turnover, both import and export, as well as on balanced development of container freight in separate directions are among them.

Main strategic objectives facing RZD are retargeting of transit container cargo flow ex countries of Asia-Pacific region from trans-ocean routes to alternative ways of cargo delivery in the RF territory. Another task is to increase the role of Trans-Siberian mainline in the volumes of import freight ex Asian countries.
