Cargo turnover of Liepaja port (Latvia) down by 0.4%, Jan.-Oct. 2009

Cargo turnover of Liepaja port (Latvia) decreased by 0.4% (to 3.59 mln tons) in January-October, 2009. As PortNews IAA learnt from the port administration, dry cargo transhipment increased by 4.5% (to 1.63 mln tons) including that of grains - by 24% (to 1.17 mln tons).

Liquid cargo turnover decreased by 33.5% (to 535.3 thousand tons), including crude oil – by 42% (to 148.3 thousand tons), petroleum products – 39.7% (to 266.8 thousand tons).

General cargoes transhipment volume increased by 14.1% (to 1.43 mln tons).

Liepaja port (Latvia) was founded in 90-s at a place of USSR sea base. It is third Latvian port in its cargo turnover volume to the date. Oil products and bulk cargoes make up half of its turnover ex CIS, first of all from Byelorussia. In 2008 Liepaja port transhipped 4.188 mln tons of cargo.
