Vostochny port cargo turnover down by 7.3%, Jan.-Oct. 2009

Cargo turnover of Vostochny port decreased by 7.3% (to 16 mln tons) in January-October, 2009 against corresponding period figure of 2008. As PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of FGUP Rosmorport, dry cargoes transhipment volume reduced by 8.3% (to 15.6 mln tons) including coal and charred coal transhipment decreased by 4.6% (to 13.5 mln tons), mineral fertilizers - by 17.6% (to 674.2 thousand tons).

Crgo turnover of general cargoes decreased by almost 3 times (to 67.7 thousand tons) (mainly scrapped metal).

Oil products transhipment decreased by 1.8 time (to 414.9 thousand tons) within the reporting period

Port box turnover decreased by 2.6 times (to 130, 587 TEUs).

Vostochny port's cargo handling facilities are located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai, in the ice-free deepwater natural bay of Vrangel, on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 30 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. Port annual total handling capacity is about 20 million tons of cargoes. Waterside include 17 berth with 3,5km long and 6,5 - 16m depths. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
