Cargo turnover of MMTP up by 9%, Jan.-Oct. 2009

Cargo turnover of stevedoring company Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC increased by 9% (to 12 mln 736.8 thousand tons) within 10 months, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period of 2008, in formed MMTP press-center. In October, 2009 cargo turnover amounted to 1mln 212 thousand tons (- 9.7% against corresponding period of 2008).

Agrosphera CJSC (affiliate of MMTP) handled 66.7 thousand tons of fertilizers in October, 2009, as per the stevedoring company information.

In October, 2009 the port handled 40 vessels, including 18 vessels loaded with coal. 15, 266 railway cars were unloaded, including those with coal – 12, 105.

Within 10 months, 2009 the port handled 424 vessels, including 186 vessel loaded with coal.

It is necessary to remind, cargo turnover of MMTP increased by 11.5% (to 11 mln 524.9 thousand tons) in January-September, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period figure of 2008.

Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC was established in 1994 on base of the public enterprise and nowadays it is one of Russia’s busiest ports. The port has 17 berths with total length of some 3,000 meters. The length and depth enables the port to handle vessels of up to 15.5 meters in draft and over 265 meters in length. The port mainly handles non-ferrous metal and alloys, rolled ferrous metal, coal, apatite concentrate, alumina; scrap metal and iron-ore pellets, chemicals in big-bags, construction materials, foodstuffs, technological equipment and containerized cargo. In 2008 the company handled 14,329,183 tons of cargo.
