On November 18, 2009 Sovcomflot group of companies and United Shipping Corporation (OSC) signed a set of cooperation agreements envisaging use of potential of Russian shipyards located in the Far East as well as cooperation on arrangement of marine equipment construction at the shipbuilding facilities built in Primorskiy kray.
Under the agreement signed between Sovcomflot group of companies, OSC and Veb-Leasing OJSC Sovcomflot plans планирует bareboat-chartering with possibility of two tankers-chemical carriers procurement of 18,000 tons dwt each. They are being completed at a Russian shipyard Far East Centre of Shiprepair and Shipbuilding.
Taking into consideration actual needs of Russian and international oil-and-gas companies including Gasprom OJSC, LUKOIL OJSC, TNK-BP, there are agreements signed proving for mutual elaboration of technical and commercial parameters of construction of newly created OSC facilities in Primorskiy Kray: not less than 6 suezmax-type tankers (160,000 tons dwt) as well as 4 tankers gas-carriers SPG of 175,000 m3 cargo capacity.
There is also three-party-agreement signed with participation of Novatek OJSCon elaboration of construction parameters of platforms for SPG plant at OSC enterprise in Primorskiy Kray as well full range of vessels that will be deployed in gas field development in the Yamal Peninsular and further gas transportation to the ultimate consumers.
As per Roman Trotsenko, acting President of OSC, pointed out that cooperation of Sovcomflot with local shipyards will provide orders for shipbuilding yards, support working places number, develop quality of building etc.
Sovcomflot OJSC group of companies is one of the Russia’s largest enterprises. Its fleet consists of 145 vessels of overall deadweight 10 million tons. Average age of tanker fleet amounts to 6 years (with an average world figure – 12 years).
Sovcomflot group stands first in the number of ‘Aframax’ tankers, second – in food-carriers sector. The company has the world’s largest fleet of vessels designed to work in ice-conditions.
