Tallink stops Rostock–Helsinki service for two months

The Estonian ferry operator Tallink has announced that it will close down the Rostock–Helsinki service for two months. According to Tallink this will be done because of reparations and maintenance on both of the ferries on the route, the Superfast VII and Superfast VIII. They are taken out of service on January 3, 2010, and on December 24, 2009, respectively. The service will be restarted on March 1, 2010.
However, Helsinki will not be completely without ferry connections to Rostock. From December 1 2009 Finnlines starts calling at Rostock instead of Travemünde on its three weekly sailings via Gdynia. These are operated with ro-pax vessels of the Finnstar-type. Finnlines also continues as before with direct daily sailings between Helsinki and Travemünde with vessels of the same type.
