Creation of oil-and-gas activity-free shelf zones to preserve bioresources, experts

To provide bioresources security many decades ahead it is necessary to create the so-called ‘oil-and-gas activity-free shelf zones’ that are rich with natural resources and unique in their biological diversity on the one hand and especially responsive to impacts of oil-and-gas complex and navigation on the other hand. That was the conclusion made by participants of an International Conference organized by Polar Scientific Research Institute of sea fish industry and hydrography named after Knipovich N.M. (PINRO) supported by RF Fishery Agency and Murmansk region Administration.

As PortNews IAA learnt from the event providers, a resolution based on the conference results was adopted. It reflects the risks related to oil production in unfavourable conditions of the Arctic Region, as well as other sides of the discussion that took place within the event. Learn the resolution on PortNews IAA site.
