Severstal to export up to 70% of rolled metal via Neva-Metal (St.-Petersburg) marine terminals

Severstal plans to ship up to 70% of rolled metal for export via marine terminals of Neva-Metal CJSC (St.-Petersburg) the division of Severstal’s Sevestal Russian Steel. As PortNews IAA learnt from the press-service of metallurgical company, to reduce transport costs in winter period of 2009-2010 Cherepovets metallurgical plant CherMK plans to ship export metals mainly via Neva-Metal CJSC facilities, as well as via industrial port of CherMK.

To implement the aforementioned plans, contracts on delivery of handling equipment to speed up handling operations were signed. Repair of asphalt-concrete cover of the marine terminals was executed.

Between the navigations the industrial port of the metallurgical plant will be used as a consolidation warehouse. It is planned to store up to 80,000 tons of rolled metal in its areas. Such a movable stock of metal will allow providing stable export railway dispatches to the marine terminals of Neva-Metal.

Severstal Russian Steel – division of Severstal OJSC – is one of the largest manufactures of steel in Russia. In the first half 2009 company’s income amounted to USD 2,497 mln, EBITDA - USD330 mln. The enterprise is referred to as one of the world’s most efficient manufacturer. The division comprises 6 segments: steel, sales, metal goods, pipes, service and scrap metal preparation.

Neva-Metal CJSC is a part of Severstal Russian Steel division. Its berths located in the third area of the Big Port of St.-Petersburg are used for transhipment of ferrous-metals produced by CherMK Severstal and for operations with containerized cargoes. Overall transhipment volume exceeded 1 mn tons within 6 months 2009.
