Russia elected into IMO Council 2010–2011

Russia is elected into the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council in the most prestigious category (category А), that comprises the countries most interested in maritime navigation (10 seats in the IMO Council),press-service of the RF Ministry of Transport reported.

‘IMO thus once again confirmed significant contribution of Russia into development of international maritime navigation and security enhancing as it was done by international auditors in the course of Russia examination by IMO in October,’ the ministry highlighted.

169 countries are the members of IMO to the date. IMO Assembly is held twice a year; it elects a council of 40 countries members-representatives for operative intersessional management of the organization’s activity. On November 27, 2009 another elections took place to define the members of the council for the next two years. 26-th session of IMO Assembly is being held from November 23 to December 4, 2009 in London, IMO headquarters.
