Yantar shipyard in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad floated the first of the three missile frigates built for the Indian navy on Friday, November 27, 2009, Itar-Tass reported.
He said the warship is 60 percent ready and the main equipment and armaments are already onboard.
The first of the three frigates was named Teg (design 11356) by Indian President Pratibha Patil. The second and third ones are Tarkash and Trikand.
Teg construction began in June 2007 and the warship will be handed over to India in 2011. The cost of the three frigates is estimated at 1.5 billion dollars.
Teg has a displacement of 4035 tons, a navigation range of 4500 nautical miles, sea endurance of 30 days, and a crew of 180.
Yantar shipyard was established on the base of the Konigsberg branch of Schichau Werft in 1945. Today Yantar is a modern and dynamically developing enterprise having wide experience in building and repair of vessels and ships of different classes and purposes. Within 64 years of its history the yard has built 154 warships and over 500 civil vessels. Controlling interest of Shipyard Yantar is held by the state represented by West Centre of Shipbuilding OJSC to the date.
