First ESPO oil delivered to Japan

Atlas Explorer, a Bahamian-flagged laden tanker docked today, March 1st, at Keiyo Sea Berth in Tokyo Bay, PRIME-TASS reports citing the trade and investment corporation Mitsui. The tanker charted by Mitsui has delivered 100.000 tons of ESPO crude oil, completing a three-day transition from the Kozmino port terminal in Primorsky Krai, Russia. Earlier deliveries of crude oil from the Middle East took from two to three weeks, the news agency said.

The East Siberian oil was transported for Kyokuto Petroleum Industries Ltd refineries. Overall, another 300.000 tons of ESPO crude oil is expected to be shipped this March.

Today, almost 90% of crude oil are imported by Japan from the Middle East. The Japan consumers will decide on future East Siberian oil supplies from Kozmino port.

The supplier of the ESPO shipment is TNK-BP Holding, SpetsMorNeftePort Kozmino, the oil terminal operator of the Kozmino said.

Since the Kozmino launch in late 2009, tankers have exported ESPO oil to the United States, China and more than 60% - to the ports of South Korea. The Kozmino oil terminal has transshipped 1.900.000 tons of export oil onto 19 tankers. SpetsMorNeftePort Kozmino company says it exceeds 2m-ton volume in ESPO shipments by the end of February, when a Maersk Phoenix docked at Kozmino will deliver the export oil cargo.

Kozmino, currently being built, is the end point of the East Siberia - Pacific Ocean (ESPO) pipeline. As of now its 2100-km-length western part is operating. Before the completion (in 2012) of the 4800-km pipeline project the crude oil will be transported to Kozmino by railway.
