Unifeeder raises its charges for container transportation to the Baltic ports

Danish Unifeeder company announced its Emergency Winter surcharge due to the severe weather conditions in the Baltic Sea in recent months. The  30 euro / laden&emptyTEU extra charge is effective from March 5th, 2010. The surcharge is imposed on all types of cargo transported to and from Finnish ports to / from the ports of St. Petersburg, Tallinn and Riga, Unifeeder press release said.

The company fighting hard to maintain its service level says the icy winter has brought many operational challenges for Unifeeder. The company has suffered an immense amount of unforeseen extra operational costs. “We regret that we have to implement the surcharge, however, the heavy winter leaves us with no choice, and we kindly ask for our customers' understanding in the matter,” the statement said.

Unifeeder has been the largest feeder carrier in Northern Europe for almost 30 years. The company’s fleet comprises 42 vessels of carrying capacity of 500-900 TEUs. Unifeeder posted for 2008 its volume sales at 400 million euros.
