In February 2010, the loaded freight volumes by the North Railroad (NZD, a branch of RZD, Russian Railways) reached 4.8 million tons, a 11.3% rise over that of 2009. In Feb.2010 the North Railroad loaded 780 tons of coal, as much as 52.6% over Feb. 2009, 865.000 tons of timber cargo (+21.5%), 748.000 tons of ferrous metals (+14.1 %), 118.000 tons of paper (19.2%), 67.000 tons of scrap metal (+37.1%), 65.000 tons of chemicals (+14%), the North Railroad press service said.
Oil products shipped in February amounted to 1.161.000 tons, a 8.3% below the same month in 2009, loaded volumes of construction materials reached 266.000 tons (-2.2%), chemical fertilizers and cement made up 284.000 tons and 14.000 tons respectively.
The Russian North Railroad comprises Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Solvychegodsk, Sosnogorsk and Yaroslavl Branches.
