Freight volumes through Vostochny (East) Port (Primorsky Territory) in the first quarter 2010, was nearly the same of that a year earlier, just 0,4% over Q1, 2009, at 3.332.500 tons. Freight traffic via the stevedoring company’s piers totaled 1.235.300 tons, 3.1% down from Mar.09., the company provisional data said.
This March Vostochny Port’s Universal Transshipping Complex handled 202.8 thousand tons of different commodities, showing a twofold growth over Mar, 2009. In Q1 the complex has seen 532.300 tons, up 29% from the same period a year earlier.
Specialized Coal Complex in March 2010, transshipped 1 million 32.5 thousand tons of coal, a 11.6% drop from last year’ March. In Q1, 2010 the complex handled 2 million 800.2 thousand tons of coal, a 4% decline as compared with the Q1, 2009.
"In general, in Q1 we keep the last year’s level, despite a slight decline in cargo turnover in March, which was mainly due to a small reduction in demand for coal in the international market,” Sergey Kushnarev, Managing Director of Vostochny Port was quoted as saying.
Vostochny Port OJSC is the largest stevedoring company in Russia’s Far East, specializing in transshipment of coal using the conveyor equipment. The Vostochny Port’s assets include a Specialized Coal Complex and a Universal Production and Handling Facility intended for transshipment of general and bulk cargoes (coal, coke, clinker, iron ore, timber, etc.). The stevedore is capable to handle metals, pulp, aluminum, chemical, long-sized and heavy cargoes.
