Pirates hijack a South Korean oil tanker off the Somali coast

Samho Dream, a Marshal Islands-flagged crude oil tanker was hijacked by pirates roughly 600 n. m. off the Somali coast on April 4th. The ship was taken to the Somali coast, EU NAVFOR press office reported.
The Samho Dream, South Korean owned and operated with a deadweight of 319360, with 24 crew members on board (5 Koreans and 19 Fillipino). The crew members are reportedly safe. EU NAVFOR continues to monitor the situation.
 EU NAVFOR Somalia – Operation ATALANTA’s main tasks are to escort merchant vessels carrying humanitarian aid of the ‘World Food Program’ (WFP) and vessels of AMISOM, and to protect vulnerable ships in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean and to deter and disrupt piracy. EU NAVFOR also monitors fishing activity off the coast of Somalia.
