Cargo turnover at the state-run Ilyichevsk (Illichivsk) Commercial Seaport (CSPI, Odessa Region, Ukraine) amounted to 4.383.000 tons in Q1, 2010, 1.8% up from the last year’s period, the CSPI’s news release said. In March the company had a 22.5% cutback, at 1 million 324 thousand tons.
The major slump this March was reported in metal shipments - by 78.1%. The month’s record jump was in the volumes of meal (+86.7%), pig iron (+82.1%), gas (+15.0%) and sulfur (+10.2%). This March containers counts were at 21.000 TEUs, a 45.7% spike over March, 2009. In the 1st quarter the volume of handled containers reached 66.8 thousand TEUs, a 24.8% gain from Q1, 2009.
