First phase of cargo facilities at Sochi port begins operating

Facilities for loading and offloading cargoes shipped to the seaport of Sochi were launched yesterday, Basic Element Company, a major investor in the port project said.
The first ship laden with construction materials (high-gravel) called at the port the other day, is being unloaded at the launched handling facility. The port’s object has been put into operation in accordance with a schedule approved by OlimpStroy, the BE company’s statement said.

"The handling facilities include two berths equipped with four Liebherr modern mobile dock cranes, crane-manipulator, front-end loaders and forklifts. The 1st phase complex allows handling 2 million tons of cargoes a year delivered for the construction of objects for the Olympics-2014," Basic Element Company said. The port’s handling facility’s projected capacity is 5m tons of cargoes a year, its completion scheduled for this December.

In December 2009 heavy seas damaged some of the piers facilities and construction equipment.
 
The port’s handling facilities are located between the rivers of Mzymta and Psou in Adler district of Sochi on the open coast of the Black Sea.  Maximum berth’s depth is 9.2 m.
