Four countries deal to build a broad-gauge railroad from Kosice to Vienna

Russian Railways (RZD OJSC), railroad and transport authorities of Austria, Slovakia and Ukraine have signed an agreement on the broad-gauge Kosice (Slovakia) - Vienna (Austria) railroad, the RZD press service reported.

The railroad project will connect the rail network of Central Europe with the Trans-Siberian Railroad. That should bring transit traffic on the Asia - Russia - Central Europe route and help boost the competitiveness of rail transport compared with shipments by sea or road transport.

Roland Berger Strategy Consultants has won to be the main contractor for the development of the railroad project feasibility study.
