Turkish shipyard upgrades and launches a Russian Volga-Don bulker

A Volga-Don Blackwood 1565 Project dry bulk carrier sets sail after being upgraded at the Hidrodinamik Shipyard (Tuzla, Turkey). The bulker’s home port is Taganrog, Russia. The ship has gotten the KM L4 R2-RSN class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping after modernization, Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB) statement said.

The upgrade designed by MEB included installation of new hatch coamings, new upper deck, aftercastle, installation of additional watertight bulkheads in the cargo area (with four holds) and other renovations.
 
The vessel is capable now to carry dangerous goods and meets all international conventions safety requirements.
 
Being upgraded Blackwood is now a twin-screw vessel with 4 cargo holds, double bottom, double sides, with the forecastle, aftercastle, aft engine room and accommodation deck..
 
The dry cargo carrier designed for transportation of general, bulk, timber, grain and bulky cargoes, dangerous goods and coal, can operate as river-seagoing ship, including the Black Sea, Azov Sea, Mediterranean Sea, the Marine Engineering Bureau said.
