In the reporting period the port has seen a 32.8% spike in bulk cargoes, up to 2.758.257.88 tons, a 28.4 gain in general cargoes, 2.244.897.3 tons. In January-March 2010 the port had a 9.8% drop in liquified cargoes, to 2.393.205,5 tons.
In Q1, 2010 the port's container throughput fell slightly (-0.8%), to 62.902 TEUs. The volume of oil shipment via the Butinge terminal declined in these three months by 18.8%, to 1.708.180 tons. The Q1 brought a 26.9-percent growth in ro-ro goods, up to 47.299 units.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are currently 17 companies operating at the port providing ranged services, including handling operations, shipbuilding and repair and maintenance. Last year, Port Klaipeda Authority posted a year-over-year 6.3% drop in freight volumes, to some 27.866 million tons.
