FCC delivers cargo on platform cars to China

First Cargo Company OJSC (FCC, a Russian Railways’ subsidiary) has started transportation of goods on the platform cars through the terminal at the Zabaikalsk station on the Russian-Chinese border crossing. Until recently, the cargo was to be transshipped from broad gauge to narrow gauge primarily onto boxcars and gondolas for further deliverance to China, the FCC’s Irkutsk branch press service said.

In early April, FCC has carried on its platform cars the first export of round timber (of Nebelsk Logging Enterprise) to China through the Zabaikalsk station. On the way back the China-made tractors and excavators laden platform cars delivered the goods to Russian consignees.

Overall, in April the new FCC’s logistics scheme includes shipment of goods by 20-30 platform cars. The Company sees an increase in traffic on the specified route.

FCC exports to China through the border crossing at the Zabaikalsk station largely pulp, iron ore, ammonium nitrate and consumer goods in box cars, petroleum products in tank cars. The FCC’s Irkutsk branch has been operating since this February at the Zabaikalsk station.

First Cargo Company is the largest Russian rail transport operator. Russian Railways who founded FCC in July 2007 holds major ordinary stocks in the Company. Since November, 2007 the First Cargo Company has been managing and maintaining its own rolling stock of over 200.000 units. The company's rail cars make up 21% of overall Russian railroads’ car fleet. The FCC’s 2009 statistics showed the Company transported more than 230 million tons of commodities.
