5-6 tons of oil leaked from a ship into waters of the Chazhma Bay

A Japan-made Neptune ship sank yesterday at the berths of the FSUE 30th Shipyard of Russian Ministry of Defense (the Chazhma Bay, Gulf Strelok, in Primorsky Territory). As a result, about 5 or 6 tons of diesel fuel, oil products have leaked from wrecked tanks into waters of 12m deep Chazma Bay, says the Department of RosPrirodNadzor in the Far East Federal district. The oil spillage was recorded on April 7th, 04-05:00pm (LT).

Ice condition in the area does not currently allow liquidation of oil spillage, said the Office. The depth of the bay in this location 12 meters.

The ship had been previously arrested according to a court decision and later RosImushchestvo turned it over to ChazhmaSudMet (Vladivostok).

The Environmental Agency inspectors have been working at the scene to collect evidences to hand them over to the Prosecutor’s Offices to file charges.
