Volgograd Shipbuilding, Palmali Group deal over 5 tankers contact

On April 7, 2010 the contract on construction of five tankers (plus five in option) of third range of ‘Armada’ type vessels, design RST22M has been signed between Palmali Group of Companies and JSC Volgograd Shipbuilding Plant (Russia).

The lead ship is expected to be launched in July 2011.

The 10 tankers of ‘Armada’ first range and 5 tankers of ‘New Armada’ have been operated successfully in mixed rive-sea shipments of oil, black oil, diesel fuel and other petroleum products and vegetable oils, and for carriages in the Caspian, Black, Mediterranean, Baltic and North Seas, including sea passages around Europe and to Irish Sea in winter.

A distinctive feature of designs RST22M, RST22 and 005RST01 vessels is use of screw-steering columns as a single means of movement and steering, absence of fore-and-aft bulk heads in DP, deep-well pumps use.

The vessels are in compliance with dimensions of Volga-Don Ship Canal and Volga-Baltic Route. Length of design RST22M vessel is 139.95 m, its width – 16.6 m, hull height – 6.0 m.

As compared to the first range of ‘Armada’ tankers those of second range have a better maritime function, deadweight increased by 650 tons in the sea, greater cargo tanks capacity with the same possibilities in river.

Vessels conform fully to new international requirements for transportation of vegetable oils.

Overall capacity of 6 cargo tanks and 2 slop tanks is 8090 m3, deadweight in the sea – about 7050 tons at 4.6 m draught, deadweight in the river – about 4700 tons at 3.60 m draught, speed in operation is 10.5 knots. Semi-reversible diesel engines of 1200 kW work at heavy fuel.

Design RST22M vessel satisfies requirements of Russian maritime Register of Shipping KM Ice 2 R1 AUT1 COMBO oil tanker/chemical tanker type 2 (vegetable oil) (ESP) ECO-S.

Compared to second range of ‘Armada’ modified vessels (design RST22), all the new requirements of international conventions and Register rules were taken into account, submersible ballast pumps installed, refusal from stern manifold, and location of equipment in the machinery space changed much due to refusal from function of disassembling of steering through upper desk.
