Cargo volumes via Berdyansk port down 29.5% to 238.900 tons in Q1, 2010

Freight traffic passing through the state-run Berdyansk Commercial Sea Port (Zaporozhye region, Ukraine) shrank by 29.5 percent in the 1st quarter of 2010 (Q1, 2010), as compared with the same period in 2009, to 238.900 tons, the company authorities said.
In Q1 Berdyansk handled 213.400 tons of outbound cargoes, 14.000 tons of inbound ones and 6.000 tons of transit commodities.

Berdyansk statistics for Q1 show the volume of scrap metal was up 60% from the same period in 2009, as building materials and coal rose as much as three times. There was a drop in volumes of grain, general cargo and coke, the company said.

Berdyansk Commercial Seaport located on the coast of the Azov Sea is the only maritime transport hub in the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine. The Port transships export cargoes, largely scrap metal and metal products (wire, ingots, sheet metal, etc.). During 2009 the Port’s throughput fell 14.4%, to 2 million 239.6 thousand tons.
