Freight traffic by KZD up 39.8% to 4.2m tons in Q1, 2010

The volume of cargoes carried by Kaliningrad Railroad (KZD, a Russian Railways branch) in the 1st quarter of 2010 reached 4.2 million tons, showing a 39.8% surge over the same period a year earlier, as well as a strong positive trend in cargo turnover, the KZD press service said.

In March, the Railroad transported 1 million 475 thousand tons of various commodities, 8.5% more than in February this year. The Railroad facilities loaded this March 181.000 tons, a 10% gain against Feb., 2010. Overall, in Q1, 2010 the company loaded and shipped 502.600 tons of goods, up 10% over Q1, 2009.

The KZD has seen stable volumes of loaded oil and petroleum products, fish and paper, the major commodities for the company and the growth in shipment of oilcake (+32.7%) and imports (+10.6 %).

The Railroad also reported the quality of its services in March: a 2.1% gain in the train speed per lane, the average weight of the train (+1.6%), performance (+ 5.8%) and the daily mileage of a rail car (+2%).

In 2009 the Kaliningrad Railroad Company carried 12.6 million tons of cargoes. The Railroad total network length is 963 km.
