Intermarine, the agent for Industrial Maritime Carriers and West Coast Industrial Express, said those carriers will adjust the bunker surcharges on all their services to or from South America, Mexico and the Caribbean as of May 6. The new bunker surcharge applies to all shipments to and from ports on the North, East, and West Coasts of South America including the Caribbean and Mexico.
The new surcharge on breakbulk cargo is $38 per metric ton (1,000 kilograms), as freighted, with a minimum of $38. The last time Intermarine adjusted the bunker surcharge on breakbulk cargo was as of Feb. 1, 2009, when it set it at $36 per metric ton.
The new the surcharge on containers is $370 per 20-foot equivalent unit and $650 per 40-foot equivalent unit. This is the same level as the bunker surcharge it announced as of Feb. 1 last year.
The surcharges apply to all inbound and outbound cargoes and will be effective for all cargoes loaded to carrier’s vessels on or after May 6.
