The volume of import and export cargo transported in the first quarter of 2010 by the North-Caucasian Railroad (SKZD, a Russian Railways’ North-Caucasian branch), passing through the seaports rose by 2.1% from the last year's figures, to 10.6 million tons, SKZD press services said. In the reporting period trade flows via Tuapse Port increased by 33.7%, over 1.1 million tons of commodities thanks to oil cargoes and coal. The Port of Yeisk has seen 289.000 tons in Q1, 2010, or a twofold gain in comparison with the 1st quarter of 2009, mainly due to offloaded volumes of steel and grain cargoes.
The cargoes, largely coal, shipped via SKZD’s Kiziterinka station to the Port of Rostov rose by 50% over Q1, 2009’ numbers to 36.000 tons..
The port of Taganrog handled 451.000 tons of cargo, mainly oil products and coal showing a 3% increase over the same period last year..
Shipment of sulfur contributed to over a fourfold rise in cargo volumes via Ust-Donetsk seaport, at 125.000 tons.
