Throughput of NCSP up 2.7% to 21.5m tons, Q1, 2010

Freight traffic passing through Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP) in January-March 2010 rose by 2.7% to 21.504 million tons. Volumes of bulked cargoes increased by 1.5% in Q1, 2010 to 210.2 thousand tons, the NCSP Group statement said.

The total cargo turnover of the Shesharis Terminal in Q1,10 grew by 1.6%, to 198.000 tons. The terminal has had a decline in crude oil, compensated by an increase in exported petroleum products.

Overall, oil products volumes via the NCSP Group in Q1, 2010 gained 18.4% to 587.700 tons.

Shipments of bulk cargoes in January-March 2010 fell by 7.3% to 251.400 tons from the same period last year due to reduced volumes of iron ore at 557.500 tons. There was a strong results in shipment of this cargo category: grain rose by 6.5%, to 134.900 tons, mineral fertilizers increased by 34.8% to 127.200 tons, raw sugar gained 27.5% to 64.400 tons.

General cargo volumes in Q1, 2010 added 14.4% to 364.700 tons. Ferrous metals rose by 11.2% to 229.800 tons, transshipment of timber cargo reached 188.500 cubic meters, a 71.6% surge, while volumes of perishable goods jumped 93.5% from Q1, 2009 to 35.300 tons.

Containers throughput increased in Q1, 2010 by 42.1% to 86.200 TEUs as compared with the same period a year earlier. This March showed a 59.9-percent rise from February in containers counts of the Group, at 14.400 TEUs thanks to resumed regular ship calls at the Port of the largest container lines - Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
 
Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port is the largest Russian port operator. In 2009 the NCSP Group’s throughput amounted to 86.5 million tons. Consolidated revenues of the Group on International Financial Reporting Standards for the 9 months of 2009 totaled $508.238m.
