A company statement said the newly built terminal in Tanjung Priok would support “the storage and distribution needs of the Indonesian and international oil industry.”
The terminal has a storage capacity of 250,800 cubic meters (cbm), but that capacity can be expanded to 450,000 cbm, depending on demand.
Vopak is the world’s largest independent tank terminal operator. Vopak Terminal Jakarta will be part of Vopak’s global storage terminal network in 31 countries.
The company said the Indonesian market held great potential. “The economy is growing at a healthy pace and since 2005 Indonesia has started to open up its oil market to private participation.”
Vopak’s local partner in the new terminal is PT AKR Corporindo Tbk. It is Indonesia’s largest private sector distributor of petroleum products and basic chemicals.
AKR operates terminals in 14 locations in Indonesia and has a total storage capacity of more than 500,000 cbm. It serves the industrial, mining, bunker and power sectors.
