Mitsui & Co eyes Klaipeda Port for containers shipments

Mitsui & Co, a Japanese trader, logistics operator considers the possibility of transportation of refrigerated goods from South Korea to Uzbekistan via the Port of Klaipeda (Lithuania). That could bring to the Port additional freight flows, at least 200 containers a month, Lithuanian Courier reports citing a Verslo Zinios newspaper.

The Port Authority said the containers traffic would be very significant for Klaipeda, with further expected volumes of the Japanese Group.

Navalio juru agentura has been negotiating with Mitsui & Co a cargo and transportation service contact. So far, Klaipeda Port has seen just occasional shipments of Japanese goods.

Port of Klaipeda is the largest Lithuanian hub. The Port's container throughput in Q1, 2010 slightly dropped (-0.8%) in comparison with January-March last year, to 62.902 TEUs.
