OOIL Q1 container shipping revenue up 18.9 pct

Orient Overseas (International) Ltd (OOIL) said on Thursday revenue from its container shipping unit increased 18.9 percent in the first quarter of 2010 as global trade continued to recover. Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) posted total revenue of $1.134 billion in the first quarter, against $954.17 million in the same period a year earlier, OOIL said in a statement.
Total volumes increased 7.2 percent to 1.05 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) and average revenue per TEU increased by 10.9 percent in the first quarter compared with the same period last year, it said in an unaudited operational update.
OOCL's load factor improved by 14.6 percent in the three-month period with a 12.1 percent decrease in loadable capacity, it added.
