Trade flows via Russia’s Baltic Customs up 2.6%, to 5,5m tons in Q1,10

Freight turnover at the Baltic Customs of the Russian FCS’ North-West Customs Directorate in the first quarter of this year rose by 2.6% from Q1,09, totaled 5.5 million tons, the Baltic Customs statement says.
In Jan.-Mar. imports and exports passing through the regional customs show a slight change in the freight nomenclature. The major inbound cargoes in the reporting period were from China, Ecuador, and the Netherlands.

Of exported volumes the oil and petroleum products were 50% of overall trade, as well as ferrous metals and timber. The outbound commodities were exported largely to Britain, the Netherlands and the United States.

The first-quarter report shows the Russian Baltic Customs processed over 2.000 ships. In Jan.-Mar., customs officers have processed 52.000 cargo customs declarations, 12% of documents in electronic submissions. The Baltic Customs authorities expect the share of electronic declaration submissions to grow as the system will be widely applied at the Central Customs Office.
