Russia, Ukraine deal over a Kerch-Kuban bridge project

During a recent meeting in Kharkov, Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev have signed an agreement on a Kerch-Kuban bridge project, E-Crimea reports quoting Basil Dzharty, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea.

"Mr. Medvedev said that the bridge is to be built by 2014. For us, for the Crimea inhabitants, it will be a huge breakthrough, primarily economic and social. This means the development of infrastructure, communications and recreation facilities," the Crimean prime minister said.

According to the Crimean authorities, there is a project to build a 4.5km-long 50m-tall bridge worth $480m over the Kerch Strait, developed by the Russian SpetsFundamentStroy, a design and construction firm. The bridge would connect the Ukrainian port of Crimea and the Russian port of Kavkaz in Krasnodar Territory. The project also envisages the possibility for the oil transportation facility. Provided the positive decision, the bridge can be built within two years, the Crimean authorities said.
