$667m hub port to be built in Indonesia

Indonesian port operator Pelindo II will develop a new hub port in Karawang, West Java, Bisnis Indonesia reported.
The new port will have an annual capacity of 10 million TEUs.
The state-owned enterprise (SOE) will prepare around US$667 million to develop and operate the port within 5-10 years.
President director of Pelindo II Richard Jose Lino said the plan would automatically terminate the Bojonegara port development program in the Regency of Serang, Banten.
"We will build the replacement seaport in Karawang, West Java. The concept is to develop a huge seaport with a land of the size of at least 10,000 hectares. The seaport should have a life time of 100 years,” he said.
He said that the SOE had coordinated with the Provincial Government of West Java to support the construction of the new seaport.
Lino said Pelindo II had sent a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the port construction, which is expected to be signed soon. He added that construction should begin within the next one to three years.
