Finnish engineering group Wartsila said on Monday it would temporarily lay off 730 workers at its production unit in Vaasa in western Finland. The company said in a statement layoffs would start mid-May. Wartsila, which last week posted weaker-than-expected first-quarter earnings, hit by flaccid demand in its key shipping business, has said it needs to reduce the number of staff to meet lower demand.
