Unifeeder to launch by mid-June 3 new services from St. Petersburg to UK ports

The Danish company Unifeeder, a leading feeder carrier and the Northern Europe short-sea operator, opens three new feeder services on the east coast of Great Britain. Unifeeder will be carrying a significant share of containerized cargoes of the largest global sea container line, PortNews IAA reported citing the Unifeeder press release.

The company says it will launch the new line in the middle of June. The new service has been officially presented today at the TransRussia-2010 Expo in Moscow.
The new service to the UK entails Unifeeder operating three container ships on regular routes between Hamburg and Rotterdam and the English ports of Felixstowe, Grangemouth, Immingham, Teesport and South Shields. The new initiative ensures serving the ports via regular routes with fixed-day schedules and several weekly arrivals in all the ports.

Unifeeder will be providing significant annual capacity from the start, thus emphasizing the fact that the expansion into the UK is a major and strategically important decision. For the already existing part of the network, the new service brings new opportunities to link the seaport of St. Petersburg and the UK.

“We have taken a strategic decision to expand our network, and expansion towards the west is the latest initiative in our strive to implement this decision. We are now further strengthening our network coverage which is already the largest in Northern Europe. Adding the the UK as an integrated destination will complement the network,” says Jesper Kristensen, CEO of Unifeeder.

Unifeeder, the largest feeder services in Northern Europe has been in the market since 1985 handling over 30.000 shipments annually. Unifeeder carries most types of cargo, such as hazardous chemicals, car tires, paper reels, pet food, etc. The Company operates its fleet of 26 vessels of 500-1,500 TEUs. Unifeeder’s sales revenues totaled in 2008 some €406 million.

Unifeeder has started its business in Russia in 1998. The Company serves five terminals in St. Petersburg: First Container Terminal JSC, PetroLesPort JSC, Rusmarine, First and Second Stevedore Companies of the Sea Port of St. Petersburg Group.
