Ukraine ports’ box volume up 10% to 101,281TEUs

Container throughput of Ukraine seaports in January-February 2011 increased by 10.16% compared to the same period of 2010, to 101,281 TEUs, the Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure reports citing the operational data of the State Service of sea and river transport.

Port of Odessa in Jan-Feb. handled 54,694 TEUs (+17,92%), Ilyichevsk port – 45,435 TEUs (+0.37%). Container traffic at Mariupol port surged by 4.7 times as much to 1,900 TEUs.

"Sustainable growth in container traffic has proved once again that this is the future of the industry," said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Konstantin Efimenko.

Ukraine has 18 commercial seaports, all of them are state-owned enterprises. Total container trade of Ilyichevsk, Odessa and Mariupol ports in 2010 grew by almost 27% to 659,600 TEUs.
