International Registries, Inc. (IRI), the Marshall Islands Maritime and Corporate Administrator has reported a dramatic increase in the number of vessels from Japan and Korea following the decentralisation of the Registry and the development of local offices in the two countries.
According to the registry, Japanese owners have indicated that they will register more than 100 vessels of some 3m tonnes during the next three years, while Korean owners have committed to 50 vessels totalling 1.5m tonnes during the same period.
“Shipowners now expect a higher level of service from ship registries and we have invested in providing local expertise in our Tokyo and Seoul offices as well as around the Asian region. Our offices are staffed by experienced maritime and technical managers who can provide assistance to the shipowning community,” said IRI president Bill Gallagher.
“We understand well that Japanese and Korean owners are flying to quality and cost efficient flagging service,” said International Registries (Far East) md Annie Ng. “Our global network of 17 offices and local offices in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Shanghai and Dalian means that Asian owners can have access to timely registration and technical support services from the Marshall Islands Registry around the world on a 24/7 basis.”
