India's Tuticorin Port to upgrade facilities

The trust will allot around 150 acres of land at Hare Island located within the port for companies to set up large facilities.
The shore area of the site is suitable for constructing shallow draught jetty to handle lighterage vessels/barges transportation of bulk cargo from the deep-draught vessels anchored at 18 metres depth.
The present operating draught at Tuticoirn is 10.7 metres and will be enhanced to 12.8 metres during 2009-10.
