FCT boosts boxes volume by 22.7 percent to 1.35 million TEUs

JSC First Container Terminal (FCT) increased container throughput by 22.7 percent compared with last year’s numbers to 1.35 million TEUs thanks to expansion of the terminal facilities, carried out in 2011, National Container Company (FCT owner) said.

In 2011, the terminal expanded its off-dock area, which uses RTG technology, launched a "dry port" freight-handling scheme between FCT and Logistika-Terminal, and commissioned 5 new straddle carriers.

Today, FCT took delivery of 4 RTG cranes manufactured by Konecranes, from the Ilyichevsk-based terminal UkrTransContainer (Ukraine) to expand its fleet to 16 RTGs. The cranes were delivered under the equipment rotation between the terminals of NCC Group.

The cranes will help boost the PCT’s cargo and warehouse throughput.

The current investment program of FCT is aimed at increasing its capacity up to 1.6 million TEUs by 2015.

National Container Company (NCC) is the largest and leading container operator in Russia. NCC is owned 50/50 by First Quantum Group and FESCO Transport Group. In 2010, total container trade across the NCC’s stevedoring assets amounted to over 1.3m TEUs.

NCC’s portfolio of assets includes First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg), NUTEP Container Terminal (Novorossiysk), Ukrtranscontainer (Ilyichevsk, Odessa region, Ukraine), Ust-Luga Container Terminal (Leningrad region), Logistika Terminal (Shushary St. Petersburg) and Wilhelmshaven-based JadeWeserPort (Germany)
