DSME is the first shipyard to adopt 4G network

DSME is The Worlds First Shipyard to Fully Adopt 4G Telecommunications - 4G LTE network and the establishment of a real time Management system DSMEs Okpo shipyard will be the worlds first Smart Shipyard by adopting 4G, the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards, and be equipped with an ultra high-speed communications network system, 4-traders reports.
On 19th October, DSME decided to start using LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless communication technology at work. SK Telecom was selected to be the provider of the new 4G service.
DSME plans to develop an integrated management system through this high speed wireless network by connecting ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and SCM (Supply Chain Management) in real time.
For this purpose, the DSME network system will change to a 4G based LTE system which is five times faster than 3G and there are plans to tighten up security by the end of this year.
Additionally, DSME is intending to develop an in-company mobile application which will assist with the offshore quality management system and data management system.
When the development of these new applications is complete, tablets will be issued to staff who manage production and quality management to increase the convenience and speed of their work.
However, all cameras and GPS functions will be strictly controlled according to the security plan and it will only be possible to setup licensed equipment.
DSME expects that by utilizing the 4G network system and new applications, all required approval and computer based work will be possible at all times, and in all locations throughout the shipyard. By establishing an optimum IT environment, DSME intends to climb even higher in the shipbuilding industry
