Port of Klaipeda recorded an all-time high in cargo volume of 31,279,400 tons as of November 7, 2011, the Klaipeda State Seaport company said.
Over the past year, the port’s cargo throughput totaled 31,277,700 tons, a 12.24 percent gain from 2009’s numbers. The Port of Klaipeda expects cargo traffic to reach 36.5 million tons by the end of this year.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Ten-month throughput of the port of Klaipeda increased year-over-year by 21.3%, to 30.7m tons.
