Urgent ship sales may be the only way out for crisis-struck Torm, which needs to improve its liquidity, so that banks do not terminate their loan contracts, according to Sydbank.
After purchasing two product tankers from Torm in October, Maersk Tankers, which plans a considerable fleet expansion, now appears as a potential buyer of more ships. Pedersen said he is sure that Maersk would like to buy the vessels but is not so positive on whether it would be willing to take over Torm's debt of around DKK10bn.
Maersk Tankers is a unit of Danish oil and shipping group AP Moller-Maersk A/S.
