Port of Singapore ten-month traffic volume up 6.5% to 444.7m tons

Throughput of the port of Singapore in January-October 2011 rose by 6.5% compared to the same period last year, to 444,796,900 tons, the Port Authority provisional statistics said.


Handling of crude oil for the period increased by 6.5% year-over-year, to 155,504,200 tons. Container throughput of the port grew by 5% to 24,826,500 TEUs.


In October, container traffic was up 7.3% to 2,568,700 TEUs.


Singapore is the city-state located on an island in the South-East Asia. Port of Singapore is the world's busiest port in terms of total shipping tonnage. Singapore also transships a fifth of the world's shipping containers as the world's busiest container port, half of the world's annual supply of crude oil, and is the world's busiest transshipment port. In 2010, throughput of Port of Singapore totaled 502 million tons.
