New coal terminal to be constructed in Kholmsk port

According to Sakhalin regional governor Alexander Khoroshav a new coal terminal will be built in the port of Kholmsk. The facility’s projected capacity is 2.5 million tons of coal a year. The regional authorities estimate annual investment in the terminal will total RUB 450 million, RIA Sakhalin-Kurils reports.

The port expansion is part of the large-scale project for creation of energy and road infrastructure facilities on the west coast of the island. It involves the construction of the Sakhalin GRES-2 Power Station, Elyinsk- Uglegorsk branch line, reconstruction of the Arsentevka - Elyinsk – Uglegorsk highway, development of Solntsevskiy coal deposit. The governor said that the regional government has held talks with major Russian companies on investment in the project.
